El-Rufai’s denial came after The Nation newspaper claimed the governor said the country was not ready for state police. “He suspected that the system is capable of being abused in a partisan political environment like Nigeria,” a source allegedly told The Nation. “This falsehood is incongruous to the publicly articulated position of Malam Nasir El-Rufai on state police,” Aruwan said in a statement. Meanwhile the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), Kayode Fayemi, Wednesday said the forum will soon make its decision on state police known to the public. A panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari in June recommended the establishment of ‘state and local government police.’
